THE OVERVIEW
A short adventure visiting the Kimberley’s iconic towns and exploring the region’s world famous natural features. Explore Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, cruise Geikie Gorge and visit the gold rush town of Halls Creek. Our two night stay at the award winning Bungle Bungles Wilderness Lodge ensures we have ample time to enjoy the extraordinary World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, including the famous Bungle Bungle Domes, Echidna Chasm known for its towering Livistonia Palm trees, and a walk into stunning Cathedral Gorge where massive rocks create a natural amphitheatre. Discover the lesser visited areas including the stunning Escarpment Trail highlighting the amazing colours and contours of the massif, whilst in the evening view a sensational sunset enjoying drinks & nibbles. We also have the option of a once in a life-time scenic helicopter flight over the Domes, making this a journey that you will never forget.

Day 1 – Depart Broome
This morning we’ll travel through the remote and beautiful landscape of the Western Kimberley, learning of local history, people and the environment crossing the Fitzroy River and visiting the famous Prison Boab Tree.

This morning we’ll travel through the remote and beautiful landscape of the Western Kimberley, learning of local history, people and the environment crossing the Fitzroy River and visiting the famous Prison Boab Tree. We arrive in the township of Derby located on the tidal mud flats on the edge of the King Sound known for having the highest tidal range of any port in Australia prior to beginning our journey on the remote cattle track, the Gibb River Road.
We continue our travels towards the Napier Range, once a Devonian reef these escarpments are over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. The perfect place to experience the stunning natural beauty of an outback oasis is the 3.5km geological wonder of Windjana Gorge and then exploring Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system carved through the Range, in which we discover stalactites, secret caves and a variety of wildlife. It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide out in the late 1800’s. As the sun sets we journey through the Oscar Ranges and groves of majestic Boab trees before arriving at our comfortable accommodation on the banks of the Fitzroy River.

We then depart the main highway to venture into Purnululu National Park by way of the 4WD Spring Creek Track where late afternoon we arrive at the private Bungle Bungles Lodge, our home for the next 2 nights.

An early departure takes us via Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park where we explore the magnificent gorge by boat. Nature carved this spectacular 30m deep gorge (Or we may visit Mimbi Caves, subject to openings).

An early departure takes us via Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park where we explore the magnificent gorge by boat. Nature carved this spectacular 30m deep gorge between the Geikie and Oscar Ranges during the Devonian geological period. The best way to experience the scenery and abundant wildlife of this natural wonder is to join the Geikie Gorge Ranger-guided Cruise (included). Geikie Gorge floods during the wet season, with the swirling water leaving its bleached mark on the colourful gorge walls. Though the water retreats during the dry season, permanent water remains to sustain the wide variety of Kimberley wildlife. (Or we may visit Mimbi Caves, subject to openings). Departing Fitzroy Crossing we traverse the West Kimberley, crossing the Fitzroy River once again prior to arriving in Broome in the late afternoon where our tour concludes.

- The Kimberley climate during our touring season coincides with ‘the Dry’. Generally the temperature ranges between 28-32º C during the day & may drop down to below 6º C during the night. It may be considerably warmer during September & October as ‘the Wet’ approaches.
- South West climate is generally Mediterranean, with cool & wet Winters & hotter dry Summers.
